How many rewards have we left unused?
I’m…guilty as charged.
Most of us are quite good at hunting for deals, discount vouchers and credit card rewards. But the irony is, we spend so much time trying to earn extra rewards that we often forget to use them.
How many of you have had rewards expire worthless in your wallet or app, too?
Just the other day, I was clearing my old purse when I discovered a $20 coffee voucher that I didn’t manage to use in time, and 2 personal training sessions vouchers (supposedly worth $100 each) that I was gifted for my birthday and forgot about. Imagine the sinking feeling I felt then!
GrabCoins are another example.
If you’ve used Grab before, then you probably earned some GrabRewards which you forgot about. Since late 2025, these have been converted to GrabCoins, with the first batch expiring on 31 July 2026.
How to earn and redeem GrabCoins
As long as you’re a Grab user, your transactions are probably already earning you GrabCoins without you realising it. But how often do you actually check your balance?

In my case, earning rewards on Grab has been quite fuss-free for me.
You can exchange for Grab vouchers on the app itself, or choose from a wide range of everyday merchants from your favourite food and beverages to various retail deals.
The exact rewards available may change over time, so the easiest way to see what your current balance can get you is to open the catalogue and browse the available options directly. Get more bang for your buck when you redeem on the 15th of the month during Flash Sale promotions, that’s where some Grab users have managed to get flash sale deals such as 1,000 GrabCoins for $5 off weekday rides – a balance I can rack up easily in less than 2 weeks!
Just be sure to check the expiry before you redeem them, and make sure you’ll be able to use them in time. Even a smaller reward you actually redeem is more valuable than a larger theoretical reward you never claim.
As GrabCoins expire 6 months from when they are earned, it is worth building a habit to check every quarter before any expires. If you’re worried you’ll forget, set a calendar reminder…or simply get your AI assistant (if you have one) to ping you.
You do not need a huge balance to get value; even smaller amounts can unlock useful savings. For instance, for less than 1,000 GrabCoins, you could redeem rewards such as a chance to win electronic devices (i.e iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple watch Series 11, AirPods Max 2) or discount vouchers on Grab platform services (GrabCar, GrabMart, GrabFood).
That’s how 2 Grab users with similar spending habits can extract vastly different value from the ecosystem in this manner – let’s be the one who regularly checks and redeems rewards, rather than the person who ignores the balance until the coins expire.
Make checking your rewards a quarterly money habit
Managing reward balances can feel like one more administrative task, especially when we already have multiple bank accounts, credit cards, e-wallets and loyalty programmes. That’s why the more practical way is to establish a habit or routine – one that you can actually stick to.
As most rewards don’t expire that fast, the best way I’ve found to work is to check once every quarter:
- Your credit card rewards
- Cashback balances
- Airline miles earned (and transfer expiring miles)
- Shopping vouchers or E-wallet rewards
- GrabCoins or other in-app rewards
Building such a habit can help you avoid losing rewards that took you months of spending to accumulate.
TLDR: A reward you forget to use is money lost.
So if you’re a Grab user, make sure you don’t forget to use your GrabCoins – every savings count.
