With the huge repository of information on the Internet today, we are simply spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding which websites to read and follow for updates.
But when it comes to something as sensitive as finance, I’m highly selective of where (and whom) I read. Some of my criteria include:
- Informative and easily understandable (even for non-finance folks)
- Well-researched and backed up with facts
- A high level of ethics, especially when it comes to sponsored posts
Not many of you may know this, but I came from a media background where we studied journalism and media ethics, so I personally hold these principles very close to my heart whether I’m writing articles or reading those written by others.
It is no secret that DollarsAndSense ranks top among my choice of finance websites in Singapore. And if you haven’t started reading them, you really should.
With over 33 thousand likes on their official Facebook page, they are undoubtedly Singapore’s top personal finance website. You might also remember them as having introduced the 1M65 CPF concept which was pioneered by Loo Cheng Chuan.
The media startup story traces all the way back to pre-2012, when a few friends got together with a vision of helping people make better financial decisions. Fast forward to the year 2019, and DollarsAndSense’s name is well-known among many Singaporeans for their high quality of content relating to personal finance, covering all grounds from saving money to investment, trading and even local policies like CPF and CareShield Life.
I’m proud to call the people behind this media startup my friends, and have seen with my own eyes the hard work and dedication they’ve put into the business over the years.
Well, last night, they were lauded at the 20th SIAS Investors Choice Awards 2019 and took home the much coveted prize – Financial Journalist Award for Investor Education.
They were also the only non-mainstream media to win the title in the category, which is traditionally awarded to journalists from the likes of BT, ST, CNA, SPH and Mediacorp.
Congratulations! You guys truly deserve the win.
P.S. If you haven’t been reading them already, go subscribe now!
With love,
Budget Babe
