We’re not safe (part 2)

I'm on the train today and am so heartened by the actions of the Singaporeans around me.

So a man dressed in black who looked like he was in his 50s got out at a station, but left a bag behind under his seat when he left.

A woman in her 60s beside me called him out before he left the carriage saying he left his bag behind, and he calmly answered that he wasn't his, as he gave a smile and proceeded to walk out slowly.

The entire two rows of commuters suddenly started mumbling.

"Should we report?" asked the woman who had called him out.

The young couple next to her nodded and started using their phone, presumably to report it. A lady looked at the carriage number ("2624") for the reporting. They took photos of the bag.

Another woman beside me opened her SGSecure app, took a photo of the bag, and made a report as well.

It doesn't seem like it could be a bomb, as it seems too kiddy to be one, but it pays to be safe than sorry. And two teenagers actually moved the bag before the officers came but there were no explosions, so it should be quite alright? Unless there is a hidden bomb timed to go off much later lol.

It's really easy to report! Here's my report.

Confirmation message.

2 stations later, two SMRT staff came onboard to retrieve the item.

I'm so impressed by their efficiency, as well as the alertness of the Singaporeans around me.

To be honest, I didn't notice a thing because I was busy clearing emails on my phone (what's new 😑) but those around me did. And together, our carriage reported the issue, which led to it being solved so quickly.

We're 4 stations down now and another senior SMRT conductor actually came by to inspect not just our carriage, but that of the entire train as well, making his way down to check under all seats.

I wrote about terrorism on @sgbudgetbabe:300517 where I shared that we really are not safe, and that we shouldn't take our peace for granted.

Singapore is being targeted by terrorists left right centre. ISIS is not a myth and neither are they just a threat in the US or the Middle East – they're real and they've managed to successfully infiltrate Asia last year.

"For less than S$200, or approximately 500 Malaysian Ringgit, a prospective foreign jihadist can secure his travel arrangements, from Malaysia to the Philippines, and be given a complimentary weapon when they join Hapilon.

That's a lot less than what we spend on our #priceofmakeup and yearly #dayrebeauty #dayremakeup hauls, and even less than what a Gaston Luga bag will cost you. We spend so much building our #dayrehomes, but all that can be taken away from you in an instance."

I wrote this almost a year ago and got slammed by another EP for talking about terrorism on Dayre and urging us to think about serious topics (LOL) but I don't care because I'm still going to do it again today.

We're not safe.

We can only be safe if all of us do our part.

This is the first time I've actually used my SGSecure app to make a report since I downloaded it last May (and I sure hope I don't get to use it often), but it is at moments like these that I'm thankful.

This is NOT a sponsored post and neither do I get paid anything if you download the app, but if you're a fellow resident in Singapore, I hope that you will download it and keep it handy for times like this.

Our military and policemen cannot be everywhere to spot every single threat. It is only when all of us do our part and help to keep a watchful eye can we stop the terrorists and keep our country safe.

In the same spirit, if everyone is like the people around me whom I had the privilege to witness today, I believe the terrorists will not be able to gain a foothold above us because WE WILL WATCH AND REPORT AND STOP THEM.

Kthxbye. EPs pls don't slam me this time lol.
