Roman Ruins / Colosseum / Trevi Fountain

So glad I did my bridal nails! They've grown out so prettily as well, and it makes me really happy looking at them everyday. Well worth the splurge hor #dayrebrides haha

Tried to save money by walking most of the time today, and I really loved this Duomos park near our hotel, on the way to the Colosseum! It is so pretty and reminds me of the time I stayed in California with such pretty parks and where I cycled everywhere in the cool spring weather too ๐Ÿ˜

We also chanced by this super cheap Spanish eatery near the Colosseum, with bread sandwiches (a little small, but still fine) for as low as 1 euro, and cappuccino for just $1.10! We bought two cups lol.

Had to take this pretty shot of the sun against the ruins at Palestine Hill.
We reserved our tickets online for an extra 2 euros each, and in the end the line for the reserved vs buy on the spot tickets were the same length?!? ๐Ÿ˜‘

Went at about 12.30pm on a Saturday afternoon and we queued for 30 min to get into this #dayretravels

The Roman ruins.

Wisteria ๐Ÿ˜ thanks Dayre for helping me find out the name of these flowers!

(in case anyone asks me about my hair again…I'm "sponsored" by my MIL who used to run a hair salon! ๐Ÿ˜‚ )

Colosseum ruins.

Hubby was asking, how come one side is chipped?

I told him I bet it was a full circle before and some parts fell or got destroyed in earthquakes or fires. Turned out my guess was right!

He also asked, huh where's the grounds where the gladiators fight?

We then realised in the free audio guide I had downloaded online via Rick Steves that the arena was on top of the underground tunnels we see now. Cool!

Hello!

(actually we were pretty bored after about 20 min here. Ruins fatigue maybe)

Can you imagine how it must have looked back in history?

Here's a then and now peek!

The Pantheon.

#nofilter! The weather was gorgeous.

The oculus at the top of the Pantheon. Pretty spectacular.

We found Raphael's tomb! Hello master of art, you're my favourite of all the Renaissance masters!

We were just randomly walking when we chanced upon Caravaggio's masterpieces in the Church of San Luigi!

Remember my budget tip yesterday of eavesdropping on group tours and taking a photo of wherever they're crowded around? We followed an Italian group tour in and found this after a quick Googling about its significance!

The artwork was amazing! The colours and level of detail…really looked like the figures were about to leap off the paintings anytime.

Piazza Navona and The Fountain of Four Rivers (aka the place where the attempted murder of the fourth cardinal in Angels and Demons took place).

The sun was just brilliant. No filters needed at all today.

Inside the church of St Agnes.

Finally made it to Trevi Fountain!

We threw in two coins cos we want to make TWO return trips in the future lol.

Spotted a lot of people throwing the coins "wrong" because according to legend, you gotta throw with your right hand and over your left shoulder. Lots of people were throwing with their right hand over their right shoulder, and hubby was laughing at them saying that they won't be able to return ๐Ÿ˜‚

Had dinner nearby and went back to see the fountain at night! It was even more crowded than during the evening?!? But so very pretty.

Saw this on the walk home. My style of fashion! But the price tag was too high ๐Ÿ˜

Tip for the Colosseum and Palestine Hill:

1. Either reserve your ticket online (for extra 2 euros each) or queue up at the Roman Forum ticketing counter to get them. The lines here are way shorter than at the Colosseum.

2. Do the Roman Forum ruins first before heading over to the Colosseum in the late afternoon. There's more to see here, and it'll be far less crowded.

This method helped us bypass the infamous Colosseum queue and got us in within 5 minutes! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
